Here is a sample of the stories you can read about on the site:
Hello, I'm considering buying a 2.5d Touareg and I'm after some info on its
true MPG fuel consumption. I'm always slightly suspicious of manufacturers
claims therefore I'm relying heavily on your experiences.
I would also be very interested in any experiences of the new 3d.
What can I expect around town and more importantly motor way driving?

Looking at the members cars. I've probably got one of the earliest touaregs.
I purchaseed mine Oct/Nov 2003 from Lakeside in Stoke on Trent.
It is a 2.5 TDI in Raven Blue. I ordered a manual because of impatience. I had
to wait an extra 3 months to get hold of an auto. I kitted it out with chrome
pack, Dakkar 18 in alloys (rip off £1700! extra). Anthracite leather, 6 cd
player, rear window blinds (great for kids in back), luggage net, sunroof, and
parking sensors. In all approx £5000 of optional extras. The garage has been ok.
I have had a few problems. The most serious has been uneven tyre wear on all 4
tyres, with the outer edges wearing most. I took the car back to the garage at
approx 9000 miles, and discovered that there had been a recall. The fault has
been with the transmission transfer gearbox. The gearbox and tyres were replaced
under warranty. I've done 7000 miles with the new gearbox and tyres, and the
driver's side tyres appear to wear evenly now, but on the passengers side both
front and rear tyres the outer edges has 1-2 mm thread less than the inner
edges. I've taken it back to the garage, but after a test drive which involved
reversing in low gear in a carpark, and listening to knocking noises the
mechanic said the gearbox
was fit. However the car is due its first service in 2400 mls. I'll keep you
posted.
Other problems have been a creaking noise from the driver's door at 75-80mph.
A ticking noise from the engine (apparently normal). The driver leather seat
rubs against the centre console.
Despite all this it is a fine car. Every time the car has been in, I've been
given another Touaeg. It is amazing how quite the petrol version is, but not
much pull.

New member seeking advice on the best tyres for Touaregs!
I am approaching 13,000 miles with slight dread that I am going to have replace
my front tyres (rears not far behind). I know others have had wheel alignment
problems and had tyres replaced by VW. However, according to my dealer, VW will
only consider free replacement if tyres wear before 8000 miles!
Has anyone else had similar problems/concerns?
Also, in the hope of longer life and better off-road traction (especially mud),
can anyone suggest an all terrain tyre for the standard 17" rim? Should I expect
increased road noise, decreased handling etc.?

Well decision has been made, I'm going to sell the Audi and get a Touareg - as long as the Audi sells. Placed it up on Ebay this evening and hopefully as soon as it sells (going to be a sad day, when she goes) I can get the Touareg either an ex Demo or spec a new 2.5 Tdi SE Sport. If any of you know somebody who's interested in a unique A6 Avant then point them in the following direction.

Ive got Xenon headlights on the Treg and wondered
how you go about masking them for abroad so as not to dazzle those little
froggie drivers when I get there?
Has anyone got any ideas as in the manual VW say they have to be adjusted by the
dealer....nice little earner for VW that one...!
What has everybody else done in the past?

I've had itchy feet recently and, having read all
the reviews etc, took a new diesel discovery for a test drive over the weekend.
The first thing I noticed was what a mish mash the interior was - some of the
plastic was very good, some was frankly awful and the wife hated it -
"agricultural" she called it but, as I used to be a farmer, I took this as a
compliment
. The seats were comfy, though, it was exceptionally quiet,
and the ride is very supple and comfortable
.
All was well, and the wife was beginning to come round, until we came to some
twisty bits in the road - ITS LIKE STEERING A SHIP!
- the thing seems to grip ok, but the body roll after driving
a touareg is frightening. Once my wife had finished bollocking me, my children
had stopped crying and I'd found all the milky bar buttons that had spilt all
over the floor, I'm afraid I was forced to take the car back rather earlier than
intended. As the thing was only doing 18 mpg, at least I saved myself some
money!
I have to admit to getting a little peeved with my car recently, with all its
problems etc, but I can honestly say that I was very happy to get back into it
after driving the discovery. If I had an unlimited budget for fuel, and was
doing motorway miles only (or deep jungle for that matter!), then I would be
tempted by the discovery, but I just couldn't live with the body roll on a daily
basis and ended up thinking that the car was vastly overpriced and overhyped.

As you probably know. I have a V6 3.2 petrol at
the moment.. I'm realy tempted to look at the V6 3.0ltr tdi.. I would also like
to look at the V10.. I'm tempted to change the treg in the next few months.
I would like to get an extended test drive of the V6 3.0ltr TDI.. whats the best
way to do this.
My 3.2 petrol is in the dealer for three days worth of work on the 1st June..so
I asked them if they could arrange this. They said no.. as the only V6 3.0ltr
they have is booked out with fleet customers..
Great.. but hey.. Im a customer too you know....
Any other way to get an extended test drive????
